Paris Marriott Rive Gauche

When I was in Paris for a weekend I stayed at the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche. The hotel is located in the “south bank” of the river, in a fairly residential area. Although it is not located directly near any tourist sites, it is convienently located 2 blocks from the Saint-Jaques stop of the number 6 metro line and about 5 blocks from the Denfert-Rocherau stop of the RER B line. The RER B line runs from the airport… so no transfers required.

As a Platinum member I was upgraded to a suite — which is essentially 2 rooms converted to be a single room. It looks as if the hotel originally didn’t have any suites, but at some point they decided to provide some upgraded rooms and the only way to do it was to combine two existing rooms. Therefore the room has two bathrooms, although only one bedroom.

The concierge lounge was definitely one of the better Marriott lounges that I’ve been too. For dessert time every evening they always had delicious French pastries, and even provided breakfasts on weekends.

Would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers to Paris. Check out the video for all the details.

    Chris,
Thank you so much for the review and video. We have the hotel booked in April for 5 days on a tour around Europe using Marriott Points. I had originally booked the Marriott Champs-Elyees and switched because there is no lounge at that hotel. I am also platinum Marriott so hopefully I will also receive an upgrade because the rooms look a little small, but that is typical in Europe. I am also checking out the Amsterdam Marriott on your site as I also have that hotel booked, but am wavering between that and the Renaissance Amsterdam. Curious that we both have the last name Raney with no i. We live in Ohio. Good to meet you.

  2. Nadine,

Good to meet you as well, and thanks! Glad you enjoyed the review and video. I, like you, definitely enjoy a hotel with a lounge…. I’d suggest calling up the Paris Marriott Rive Gauche the day before check-in, and request that they note on your reservation a request for an upgrade. I did, and it worked out pretty good :) .

Regarding Amsterdam — I can’t comment on the Renaissance rooms as I haven’t stayed there… but I do think the location of the Renaissance is closer to the main train station and many of the tourist sights. The Amsterdam Marriott is a bit of a walk from the touristy things — but most of the major trolley lines stop in front of the Amsterdam Marriott — so provided you ride the trolleys, you can get anywhere pretty quickly.

And indeed it is curious that we both have the same last name… I’ve been told the name comes from some Irish background once upon a time. My family has been in San Diego for a couple generations, including me :) .
